Before your kill your brain cells, enjoy a little trivia.

Before you kill your brain cells, enjoy a little trivia.

Drinking can get so monotonous. It’s basically the same lather, rinse, repeat cycle over and over again, and our brain cells are being ravaged as a result. If you’re looking to mix it up on your next alcohol excursion, we suggest pairing it with a well-aged trivia night. New York City has plenty of them, and MyCityWay picked our personal favorites. Trust us, your brain cells will thank you.

Gael Pub: Largely considered the most popular bar trivia night in NYC, there are six categories each week that include audio and visual rounds. First prize gets a $50 gift certificate, second prize gets $25, and there’s a free raffle for a $20 bar tab if your team doesn’t have a prayer of placing. Tuesday @ 8:30 p.m. | 1465 Third Avenue (between 82nd and 83rd Streets)

Biddy’s Pub: With a slogan like, “Alienating people since 2003,” this is naturally one of our favorite bars in the city. There are two chances to win – one for best team name (free round of shots), the other for the most correct answers (40% discount on the bar tab). Thursday @ 9:30 p.m. | 301 East 91st Street (between First and Second Avenues)

Crocodile Lounge: Free pizza for every drink ordered. That’s reason enough to head to this popular dive for trivia night, but there’s also a $75 bar tab to win. It’s also crazy packed so mentally prepare yourself for the chaos. And tip the pizza guys – they’re working hard to get you that free pizza in a timely manner. Wednesday @ 9 p.m. | 325 East 14th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues)

Alligator Lounge: The Crocodile Lounge’s grungy little sister sits in Williamsburg and has all the same perks as its Manhattan counterpart without all of the crowds. Its trivia night also happens to be run by the same people who do The Charleston’s (next up), so you know it’s going to be legit. Monday @ 9 p.m. | 600 Metropolitan Avenue (between Lorimer and Leonard Streets)

The Charleston: Another free pizza per drink special, and a killer trivia night to boot. The hipster dive in Williamsburg is one of the most civilized we’ve ever been to – no cheating, no yelling, and not overcrowded – and the questions are geared toward its oh-so-cool audience. The bonus shot rounds are also a plus. Tuesday @ 9 p.m. | 174 Bedford Avenue (at 7th Avenue)
