Our Story

In 2010, Sonpreet Bhatia, Archana Patchirajan and Puneet Mehta, three friends who were working in the financial space, leveraged their collective technology experience to come up with the first MyCityWay app, NYC Way, a mega-utility app for New York City residents and tourists. That same year, they entered NYC Way into the BigApps competition, sponsored by the City of New York. The app went on to become the most successful app in the competition, winning three awards, including Popular Choice and Investor's Choice, and earned an endorsement from Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Today, NYC Way is joined by 66 other city apps across the U.S., Europe and Asia including Chicago Way, London Way and India Way. Sonpreet, Archana, Puneet and the growing team at MyCityWay continue its core mission to build groundbreaking technology, help create jobs and ultimately contribute to the economy.

The Team

Sonpreet Bhatia, Co-Founder, MyCityWay

Sonpreet Bhatia has a passion for Internet entrepreneurism and is an expert in the field of technology, IT and mobile apps. As a long time seasoned New Yorker, Sonpreet is always trying to keep a pulse on the coolest happenings around town from hot concerts to the latest movies to the newest restaurants. Thanks to a stroke of inspiration at a Manhattan coffee shop, Sonpreet and her business partners took their love of urban living to a whole new level when they came up with the idea for MyCityWay. Now Sonpreet only has to pull out her iPhone to get the best of the city right at her fingertips! Before founding MyCityWay, Sonpreet worked for eleven years on Wall Street in senior positions.

Puneet Mehta, Co-Founder, MyCityWay

Puneet's drive to develop a sixth sense for navigating cities around the world led him to walk away from Wall Street to co-found MyCityWay. Before starting MyCityWay, Puneet held a number of technology executive positions with JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch and Citi Capital Markets, where he oversaw innovation, architecture and execution for newer technologies within capital markets, electronic trading and wealth management platforms. Today at MyCityWay, Puneet continues to focus the company's efforts in being a one-stop shop for locals and tourists to explore their cities, using the best mobile, social and location-based technologies.

Archana Patchirajan, Co-Founder, MyCityWay

Archana's path to co-founding MyCityWay started with a long-standing passion for developing unique technology that can be put to practical use. NYC Way was created after her spending years in New York City running to catch the train, scrolling through hundreds of restaurant recommendations, and stepping outside to find the weather ten degrees colder than it appeared. Archana has held senior technology roles with Wall Street firms including Standard & Poors, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup. It was her entrepreneurial spirit that was a key factor in bringing MyCityWay to the world - to change the way people interacted with the vibrant cities they lived in.

Steve Rowe, Chief Revenue Officer, MyCityWay

With a strong background in marketing and sales, Steve is focused on developing programs that add value to MyCityWay's products by partnering with the companies we all love. He finds ultimate satisfaction in creating the perfect connections between consumers and brands. Prior to joining MyCityWay, Steve was head of sales and marketing for Zagat Survey, and needless to say, knows how to eat very well. His two favorite cities are also classic rivals – New York and Boston – which makes for interesting banter during baseball season. To take a break from the city, Steve escapes to the Berkshires for the great outdoors, excellent food and top-notch culture.

Matt Robinson, Product Manager, MyCityWay

As one of the company's longest serving employees, there's nothing Matt doesn't know about MyCityWay products. Always ready to roll his sleeves up to meet a deadline, Matt is a stickler for detail and dedicated to making sure our apps are in the best shape possible. Having grown up in the UK and having also lived in France, he brings a transatlantic vibe to the office and when not hard at work can often be overheard explaining the offside rule in soccer, discussing the difference between whisky and scotch or debating over which were the defining moments in the history of Hip Hop.

Ilangovan Murugesan, Business Analyst & Product Manager, MyCityWay

With in-depth knowledge in quantitative analysis, statistics, database management and a passion for numbers, Illangovan can extract raw information from a data source and create meaningful reports that can be understood by any audience. On a daily basis he performs important analysis to provide insights to drive decisions based on customer behavior. On the weekends he loves to explore different neighborhoods in New York.

Andy Catchaturyan, Interactive Designer, MyCityWay

Andy "Catch" Catchaturyan is an interactive designer hailing from Sydney, Australia. Cutting his teeth art-directing, designing and developing Flash apps and websites in some of Australia's best agencies, he's jumped in with both feet to the mobile world for the first time. Believing that mobile applications should be designed as much like objects as like software he also believes they have to look good, but carry a big database.

Bojan Mitrevski, Graphic Designer, MyCityWay

Bojan hails from Macedonia, and if you don't know where it is -- quick, look it up! He is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist with a taste for political satire. As a designer, he has a deep passion for beautiful architecture. His diverse talent can be seen in the graphic design skills he brings to MyCityWay. He loves sports and enjoys playing just about any game out there including his favorites soccer and basketball. Handball is a big love too, and if you don't know what that is -- look that up too! He loves to cook using the motto, "respect for the ingredients." Euro by heart and the world by soul, coffee, food, and wine keep him going.

Tianwei Liu, User Experience Specialist, MyCityWay

Active in the digital media industry for years, TW decided his appetite is much bigger than just making music and videos. With an ambition to create cutting-edge products, TW works to inspire millions of users towards better lives and increased happiness. At MyCityWay, TW is an UI/UX specialist crafting our product to be more human and comprehensive with a pleasure factor built-in. TW utilizes his sharp intuition and aesthetic sense to understand users’ behaviors and thoughts while the analytical and logical half of TW's brain aligns with the algorithms of user interface design.
